Harro (Hal) Lapinski
Harro (Hal) Lapinski, 75, passed away April 2, 2012 after a valiant fight against cancer. He was born August 1, 1936 in Hamburg, Germany to Bertha and Ernst Lapinski. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1953 and his father in 1959. He is survived by his loving wife Erika of 54 years and his 3 children; his daughters, Tanja (Ed) Schulz and Iris (Eric) Clarke from Canada and his son Steve (Shelly) Lapinski from Dallas, Texas and 6 grandchildren. He moved to Canada from Germany with his family in 1966 and then he and Erika relocated to Lake Havasu City in 1980.
Harro was a man of integrity, a great father and provider and he lived a very event-filled life. He was an honest, resourceful and talented architect, builder and part-time musician. He was a 2 time President of the Home Builders Association of Havasu and was profoundly involved with the Lake Havasu Yacht Club for 26 years becoming Commodore for 2 terms.
He was in love with boating and sailing and was instrumental in bringing the sailing and racing programs back to the Lake Havasu Yacht Club.
Harro built many custom homes and several commercial projects in Lake Havasu enhancing the city in general. He was a forerunner of energy conservation in the early 80's. In his retirement years he wrote a book about his childhood memories of WW II Germany based upon 110 personal letters between his mother and father. His final desire was to see the book written into a screenplay which is presently in progress.
We are very thankful to the nurses at Hospice of Havasu and The Polidori House for taking care of Harro and giving us the comfort knowing that he was in very caring hands.
A Celebration of Life for Harro is planned for May 24, 2012, from 12pm - 4pm at the Lake Havasu Yacht Club.
