Obituary of Johnny La Vall Striyle

Johnny LaVall "Vall" Striyle was born in Bismark, North Dakota on August 26, 1935, the son of John and Alyce Striyle.

 

At 9 month old, the family moved to Springfield, Oregon. He completed school and worked in the plywood industry. He met his wife, Lou Ann, which was his next door neighbor for 5 years. They started dating and married February 14, 1958. They had 3 children together, Joy Striyle, Lynn (who passed away at 9months), and son, Gary Striyle. McCulloch had flown them in to Havasu for the weekend and bought property. September of 1969, they moved to Lake Havasu. He became a member of Mt. Olive in October 1969 and served 1 year as a Church Council Member.

 

Vall wanted to help build the London Bridge, and finally got a job doing so. After completing the bridge, he continued on with doing other details of the bridge. He was the general manager from 1978-1988 at Havasu Landing in charge of developing the Thunderhead Mobile Home Park, consisting of building the restaurant, lounge, docks, sewer, and water for the entire area. He later went on to work for London Bridge Resort, where he was construction manager, in charge of converting the units into timeshares and remodeling other areas of the resort from 1988 to retirement of 2001.

 

He was appointed to Lake Havasu Planning and Zoning, serving 5 years, then was elected to Lake Havasu City Council and served 8 years (2 terms) from 1988-2006, in which he became Vice Mayor.. He served in the Sewer System pay as you go program. He was also involved in the development of building the new City Hall, Firestation #2, and the Fire Department training center on Kiowa. After retiring, they traveled a bit to Oregon. He was involved in the Rotary club, Elks Club, Eagles club, and Lake Havasu Senior Center.

 

After becoming ill, he passed on Sunday, October 29, 2017.

 

He is survived by his wife and soul mate of almost 60 years, Lou Ann; daughter, Joy; son, Gary (wife Melinda); sisters, Evalyn Bennett and Irene Lillebo, of Eugene Oregon; grandchildren, Tania (Dustin) Wilberding, Jeff, Jon, and Josh Esquibel, and Gage Striyle; great-grandchildren, Jocilyn Wilberding, Gabrielle Esquibel, and Elijah Esquibel.

 

Services will be at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 1:00pm.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Havasu and Mt. Olive Youth or Social Services.
