Obituary of Terry Joel Wintory

Terry Joel Wintory was born and raised in the areas of Ft.Smith, Arkansas and Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is survived by two older brothers, Stephen and Ken, one younger sister, Lynn and his father, Nicol. Never one to be average, at birth he weighed 12.4 pounds and was 25 inches long. His father is an immigrant from Germany who landed in Ft.Smith in 1939, at age 16. His mother taught music and played in the symphony. Terry was exposed to the things his parents held dear: classical music, books, Judaism and being smart. Growing up, he studied, became an avid reader, worked on his comedic timing, and started the process of becoming a Renaissance Man. He married Shelley, the true love of his life, in 1977 and they moved to Denver where he began his 30 year practice in Orthopedic Surgery. They raised two children. Audrey teaches in Boulder, CO. Austin is a composer and married his high school sweetheart, Megan. They live in Los Angeles, CA. After growing tired of the cold, Terry found the perfect retirement spot in Lake Havasu, AZ. In the transition, he worked at Lakeside Orthopedics. Patients and colleagues respected and appreciated him for his excellent work and warm disposition. Terry was known for his uninhibited nature and playful personality, confidence, generosity, athletic lifestyle, overwhelming passion for learning and acquiring new skills, and his deep love for his family and friends. In late October, he was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive cancer and given approximately 20 months. In true form, he approached it like everything else that had come before: Learn all there is, take action, move forward. Grieving the injustice of it all was scheduled for much later. Just over two months later, he died on January 8th at 64 years old. Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
