Obituary of Barbara D. Hamich

Born in Patschkau, Germany on July 21, 1925, Barbara moved to Lima, Peru after WWII. In Lima, Barbara worked for Elna Sewing Machine becoming one of the only female executives. After moving to Chicago she met Walter Hamich, a fellow German. They wed on October 28, 1961 at Holy Hill Basilica in Wisconsin and moved to Lake Havasu City in 1970 with their two daughters. Barbara was an active parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church; Walter served as Deacon from 1987 through 1992. They owned and operated Walter's Custom Woodwork from 1972 to 1990. They moved to Phoenix in 1992 to work with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix Diaconate Office and to be near their grandsons. Barbara's first priority was her family whom she loved unconditionally. Barbara returned to Lake Havasu in 2012. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Guillermo and Agnes; brother, Christoph; and husband, Walter. She is survived by two daughters, Monica (James) Charnell (Phoenix), and Dodie (Tom) Gildea (Lake Havasu); sister, Enriqueta (Germany); brother, Bill (South Carolina); three nieces, Christel, Rebecca, and Michelle; and three grandsons, Peter, Matthew and Zachary. A visitation will be held at Lietz-Fraze on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church on Friday, April 10, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life will continue at the Church Hall immediately following mass.
