Charles Rhea Messersmith 86, passed away on March 23, 2012 in Lake Havasu City, AZ at the age of 86. Charlie, as he was known to his family and friends, was born on October 27, 1925 in Ferguson, MO to Milton and Wilma (Smith) Messersmith.
Charlie grew up in Kansas City, MO and graduated from Center High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army, serving in India. Charlie proudly served his country beginning September 1943 and was honorably discharged in July 1946. After leaving the Army he worked in the Civil Service as an equipment specialist.
Charlie was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Masons. His favorite hobby was in woodworking, making toys for his grandchildren.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Jane Messersmith; sons Mark Messersmith and Rex Messersmith; step-sons Randy Amoroso, Jerry Amoroso and Michael Amoroso and 3 grandchildren Mark, Madison and Shelby. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty and his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday March 29, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2170 Havasupai Blvd. Lake Havasu City, AZ with word of comfort from Pastor Matthew March. Inurnment will be at the Mt. Olive Church Columbarium. A reception immediately following the inurnment will be in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Charlie's name to Hospice of Havasu, P O Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405 or the building fund of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
