Obituary of Joyce Swanson Roberts
Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Golden Valley, AZ-Joyce Swanson Roberts, March 27, 1944-December 27, 2015. Daughter of Harold and Virginia Swanson, Joyce was born in Oakland California and attended the San Francisco Institute of Fine Arts. Her career included an Art Directorship for the Girl Scouts of America as well as a variety of positions with the United States Postal Service.
But beyond these facts lived a woman whose spirit, grace, talent and humor touched the lives of all who knew her. Joyce genuinely cared about others and made those around her feel special-humans and critters alike. From cats 9her first love) and dogs (by proxy) to a porch filled with a family of hungry raccoons and anything else that might need love and attention, she was both Protector and Defender. As a gifted artist in her own right, she encouraged others to pursue their callings, never failing to make it all seem possible. And her sense of humor never failed to brighten even the drabbest occasion. Who can't picture her asking, with a gleam in her eye, "Yes, but can you cook?"
Beautiful, funny, sweet, generous Joyce is survived by her long-time partner and spouse Kathy Wilber, sister Gayle Stickles, daughter Virginia June Strouse, son-in-law Timothy Strouse, granddaughters, Jasmine, Jacklyn, Julia and great-grandson Graham Taltly.
