October 3, 1930 - July 24, 2012 John Leon Pettit passed away July 24, at Serenity Assisted Living, in Lake Havasu City, at the age of 81. "Jack", the name he always went by, was born at Backoo, ND on the old farmstead, to Leon and Ines Pettit October 3, 1930. He graduated from Cavalier High School and went on to Jamestown College (North Dakota) where he met his future wife Doris White. Jack was an English major and he and Doris taught school for four years in North Dakota before his desire to enter the ministry. After graduating from Dubuque Seminary (Iowa) he went on to serving as Presbyterian minister for 35 years. A few years after retirement, the couple moved to Lake Havasu City in 1998. Jack became active in our Community Presbyterian Church, Golden K Kiwanis and Hospice of Havasu. He served as chaplain in Hospice for several years. Jack is survived by his wife, Doris, and four children: Jerry, of Omaha, NE; Lila (Richard Dan), of Pierceton, IN; James (Nancy), of McLean, VA and Lark, of Lake Havasu City, AZ; six grandchildren, Heather, Sarah, Brett, Clint, Beth and Cody; and one great-grandson, Chase. He was preceded in death by his parents and four older brothers. Visitation was at Lietz-Fraze chapel Thursday, July 26, from 3-5 p.m. Burial will take place later in Omaha, NE. A memorial service will be held at Community Presbyterian Church Saturday, August 11, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Bybee officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorials to Community Presbyterian Church, Hospice of Havasu, and Golden K Kiwanis.
