Obituary of Katherine Lorraine Willett
Please share a memory of Katherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Katherine Lorraine Willett died peacefully in her home on August 27th, 2023. She was 94 years old. In her final days she was surrounded by her family, holding her hand, watching old family videos, telling stories filled with laughter and love. She got to eat her favorite lemon pie, sip blackberry wine, and be with the people in the place she felt most comfortable.
Katherine Willett was a force. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a librarian, a teacher. She loved sewing and cooking, making handmade gifts for others that brought joy and laughter. She was silly and serious. She loved her soap operas and delighted in birthday parties. She taught all the kids to swim, plotted how to win America’s funniest home videos, helped with science projects and came to school events. She could tell a joke like no one else. She knew how to get you riled up and then bursting out in laughter.
A fierce protector of her children, her grandchildren and even her great grandchildren making sure everyone knew there was always a place to come home to. She was the baby whisperer and then the carer of all the children. She wanted every child to experience joy and love and safety and she did everything she could to make that happen.
She’s been waiting a long time to join her husband, Vincent Roger Willett, and her brothers and sisters who all passed before her. She also let us know that her beloved pig(s) from childhood, Suzy Q, was waiting for her as well.
She is survived by her children, Vincent(Robin), Linda, Richard Allen(Nancy), Robin, Kim(Don), 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
It’s hard to imagine a world without our beloved Mom, Grandmother, “Nanny,” in it, but as we look around at the legacy she left, the permanent mark in our hearts, we know she’ll always be part of us and we’re so grateful and lucky to have had her for as long as we did.
Services will be held at Our Lady Of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Havasu City, AZ at 12:00 on Saturday Sept. 2. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital.
