Obituary of David Charles Nesbitt

David Charles Nesbitt, age 92, passed away at 3:38 p.m. on April 9, 2014. Dave was born 5/31/1921 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He graduated from high school in 1940 and on 3/21/1942, he married Harriet Rose Criswell. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a machinist aboard the USS Prince William, an escort carrier, and saw duty in the Pacific and Atlantic theaters of operation. He attended Boot Camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center and received training as a machinist at the U. of Minnesota. He honorably discharged on 10/07/1945 as a Machinist Mate Second Class.
Following his military career, he returned to Wheeling for a short time. He applied for employment with the FBI as a clerical employee and was accepted for this position. He entered on duty 9/9/1946. His desire was to become a Special Agent and in this regard he attended night school at Southeastern U. where he graduated in May, 1950 with a B.S. degree in Accounting. He served as a Special Agent in San Antonio for one year and Detroit for 23 years.
He retired 9/27/1974 and moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona where he became active in many endeavors. He served as chairman of the Board of Trustees and later on the Finance Committee at St. Michael's United Methodist Church. He was also active with his wife, Harriet in Nesbitt Accounting Service. In 1978 he served on an Ad Hoc Committee organized for the purpose of establishing a new county which proved to be unsuccessful. He taught one semester in the Criminal Justice Program at Mohave CC and for many years sang in the St. Michael's Church choir and the Lake Havasu Community Choir. He was also active with Harriet in forming the Lake Havasu Community College Campus Foundation, the purpose of which was to acquire BLM land for the establishment of a new college campus for Mohave Community College. The land was obtained and a victory celebration took place at the Nesbitt residence which was attended by Governor Bruce Babbitt and Secretary of State Rose Moffard.
Dave was also active in square dancing, and was a five-time president of two different clubs. He also became a caller and was active in this capacity with the Sandpoint Squares and Wheelers, Londonderry Squares, London Bridge Squares, and the Kingman Kut-Ups.
Harriet passed away on July 4th, 1984. On 1/20/1990 David married Lorene Dahir nee Storms. Lori passed away on 5/24/2008. He enjoyed golf, bowling, bike riding, square dancing and calling. David is survived by son, David E. Nesbitt, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, step-daughter, Lisa Lloyd and step grand-daughter.
