Please share a memory of Leonard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leonard Bernard Browning Jr., 81, passed away quietly at home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, on June 17, 2023, when his loving heart gave out. Leonard was born in Brusly, Louisiana on July 31, 1941, to Lilly Mae LeJeune Browning and Leonard Bernard Browning. He was the second child and first son of ten siblings in the family. He graduated from Brusly High School and joined the U.S. Army. Following a tour of duty in Hawaii, he transferred to the Air Force where he became a loadmaster and traveled the world for the next 17 years, retiring in 1981 after 20 years of service. During this time Leonard married Marian Browning and became a stepfather to her three children. They had one child together, Jennifer Browning. They divorced but remained friends. The Browning siblings often lived in the same places, moving to join each other in various career moves in Louisiana, South Carolina, and finally Alaska. Leonard was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed spending days in the woods enjoying nature. He made many friends in Anchorage service organizations and was an active member of the VFW Post 1685, and Amvets Post 49, and worked as assistant manager/bartender at American Legion Post 1. He was often asked to cook his famous Cajun Spaghetti for the clubs. In 1996 Leonard met and later married Jeanne Campbell, who introduced him to golf. He became an avid golfer. Alaska winter wasn’t suitable for golf, so in 2008 the Brownings bought a second home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and Leonard became a “snowbird’, spending winters in Arizona so he could stay active with golf all year. After Jeanne’s retirement in 2019, they became full time residents of Lake Havasu. Leonard continued daily and tri-weekly golf outings and managed to card three holes-in-one at Lake Havasu Golf Courses. Leonard is survived by his wife Jeanne; his daughter Jennifer; stepchildren Steven Brockmiller, Vickie Deviny and Karen LeBon; brothers Tommy, Jimmie and John Browning and sisters Dianne Robertson and Janet Cashiola, as well as many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. No services are planned.
