Edie, long-time resident of Lake Havasu City, career organist and pianist in church and theatre, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Thursday, May 18, 2023,a month shy of her 92nd birthday. Her husband of 55 years, Phil Dirks, preceded her in 2008. They moved to LHC in 1989 from the San Francisco Bay Area following Phil’s retirement. She is survived by her two sons, Carl Dirks (wife Rose) and Paul Dirks (wife Cathy), as well as grandchildren Steve Dirks (Ammy), Liane Veenema(Jeff), Christina Berkshire (AJ), and Jennifer Dirks, and two great-grandchildren Addy and Zoe.
Edie was born near Philadelphia to German physicist Eric Boerner and Gertrude. Raised in a Hungarian orphanage in Ligonier, PA with her brother Jerry, Edie went on to learn professional piano and organ while attending music college in Chicago. She pursued music education, attaining her AA Music degree from DeAnza College, San Jose CA. She also received professional training on the Wurlitzer 5-manual theatre organ consolein San Francisco. She played in church and theatre until her retirement from Lamb of God Church, LHC. She is best remembered for herBay Area theatre music in the local production “Guys & Dolls”.
Edie will be buried next to her husband and father June 28th atOakmont Memorial Park, Lafayette CA in a small ceremony. Final respects can be sent to Carl and Paul through Lietz-Fraze funeral home in lieu of a funeral.
