Obituary of Raymond Lester Maxfield

Raymond Maxfield, age 99, of Lake Havasu City, Az passed away peacefully December 28, 2022. Ray was born March 10, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to John Maxfield and Margaret Marsh, and had 3 younger siblings. Ray traveled the world on a Navy battle ship in World War II, using his keen mechanical skills, which were a lifelong passion. He was very proud of his service. Dad could fix almost anything, using almost nothing to do it. He married Evelyn Cunningham, had 3 children, Dale, Ellen & Nancy and settled in the Chicago area. Ray was a lifelong Illinois Bell employee who worked his way up from telephone repairman. He passed along his persistence and work ethic to his children. After retiring, he and Evelyn explored the west. They lived in Oregon but eventually moved south, enjoying the desert, panning for gold, visiting casinos and making friends. They settled in Lake Havasu City, where Ray was a dedicated volunteer with Kiwanis and the Food Bank, caring for his wife and others as their health declined. He enjoyed volunteering and credited it with keeping him young, when people marveled at his age and how sharp he was at 99. A memorial service for Ray will be held at Seventh Day Adventist Church (3130 Chemehuevi Blvd, Lake Havasu) on March 17, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Services were entrusted to the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
