Obituary of Margaret Neiman
Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Neiman of Lake Havasu City, AZ passed away on November 6, 2022 after a courageous one-year battle with brain cancer.
She was born on April 14, 1950 to Jim and Helen Fiala in Oak Park, Illinois.
Margaret graduated from Western Illinois University in 1972 and taught generations of children in South Berwyn Illinois School District 100 for 34 years, often riding her motorcycle to work.
Margaret’s spirituality was immersed in nature and all wonders God gave to this world. Her joy in this, which she generously shared with family and friends came with an adventuresome spirit, a love of laughter and a desire to see all the world had to offer. She scuba dived in Belize, snorkeled in the Philippines, Indonesia, Hawaii, and the Galapagos. She hiked in the Grand Canyon, Croatia and New Zealand. She white water rafted on the Colorado River. She paddle boarded and canoed in the Pacific Ocean and Lake Havasu. She kayaked everywhere she could including Belize, Lake Powel and Croatia, Alaska and camped in the Grand Canyon and Catalina Island just to name a few. At age 70, Margaret, the warrior queen, trained to back pack into the Grand Canyon, which was one of her favorite places on earth.
Margaret’s early introduction to nature and adventure began at the family summer home, in Shafer Lake, Michigan living with extended family and surrounded by life long friends. Later in life, Margaret recreated that joy in a summer home, and she and her husband Lee purchased a cottage in Upper Silver Lake Michigan with friends. There, they were able to swim, snowmobile, water ski, kayak, and ride dune buggies and ATV’s across vast dunes from Lake Michigan to Silver Lake.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband Lee Neiman, whom she married in 1982 in Paw Paw Michigan. She is also survived by her sisters, Rose Fiala, of Alaska, and Marian Chesney of Indiana, and nieces Julie and Jenny, and numerous cousins. She is also survived by friends with whom she shared her adventures, her laughter and her love. It was a life well lived.
