Obituary of Ardis Rae Evans

Ardis Rae Evans (Sjol) passed away peacefully with family at her side on December 4, 2021. Ardis was born April 18, 1944, in Williston, ND, to Soren and Florence Sjol. She lived there until 1945, when the family moved to Van Hook. They resided there until 1953, when they moved to New Town where Ardis graduated from high school and was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church. Ardis married Lane Evans on June 29, 1962, in Roseville, CA, where she was attending business college. Ardis and Lane moved back to ND in 1964, where they started their family and attended Minot State College. They moved to Chicago where Lane worked in the restaurant business. Over the years, they operated many restaurants including: Chances Are, Scenic 23, and The Legion Supper Club in New Town. Ardis also operated a furniture store and a gift store in New Town. Lane and Ardis moved to Washington state where Ardis attended Vancouver State University and received her business degree, then attained her Certified Public Accounting from Washington State, showing that education has no age limit. When Lane retired, they moved to Stanley, ND, where they built their home. They opened the Frostee Treat Drive In with their daughter, Stacy. After they sold that business, Ardis and Stacy owned and operated Whoopsy Daisy Floral for a number of years. Ardis belonged to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, New Town Chamber of Commerce, and she sang in the church and community choirs. Ardis enjoyed quilting at American Lutheran Church and Our Saviors Lutheran Church, participating in Bible studies and in the Grief Share Program. She was a member of the Red Hatters, Senior Citizens, and served in different positions on the Board of the Bethel Nursing Home, Mountrail County Hospital, and Sons of Norway. Ardis had a love for the arts, playing piano, painting pictures, and attending theatre. Ardis gave piano lessons over the years. Ardis and Lane spent much of their retirement time traveling around the U.S. and abroad. Their trips to Norway where amongst her favorites as she was able to meet extended family. Ardis was happiest when she was able to spend time cooking and baking for her family. She was an accomplished artisan in the kitchen with many favorite requests from the family. Her true passion was her faith and love of God. Ardis is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Lane Evans; her children, Stacy (William) Coughlin, Mike (Ilene) Evans, Scott (Karen) Evans; her six grandchildren: Darcy (Joshua) Buerkle, Ashley (Andrew) Frank and Richard Coughlin, Cory, Cody, and Jordon Evans; three great-grandchildren, her sister Carol Amiot, as well as several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Ardis is proceeded in death by her parents, brother Dennis Sjol, and brother-in-law Glen Amiot. Arrangements were placed into the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
