BETTY BLAIR
BETTY BLAIR PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY on October 13, 2012 TO BE WITH HER HUSBAND, FAMILY AND FRIENDS JUST AFTER HER BRIEF ENCOUNTER IN THE HOSPITAL IN LAKE HAVASU CITY, ARIZONA WITH HER DAUGHTER MICHELLE BLAIR BY HER SIDE, COMFORTING HER. SHE WENT PEACEFULLY AND QUICKLY WHICH WERE HER LAST WISHES.
BORN MARCH 6, 1937 AS BETTY ZOE TROST.
SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS, GERTRUDE AND CARL TROST; SISTER, SANDRA FARRELL AND HER BELOVED HUSBAND RALPH BLAIR (MARRIED 51 WONDERFUL YEARS!)
HER LOVE FOR HER FAMILY ; DAUGHTER SANDRA USHER, SON-IN-LAW KARL USHER, DAUGHTER MICHELLE BLAIR, GRANDDAUGHTERS, ERIKA JENSEN AND ARIEL USHER AND GREAT GRANDSON MASON CARTER AND BROTHER TERRY TROST, NEPHEW WAYDE FARRELL AND NUMEROUS CARING FRIENDS AND OTHER NIECES AND NEPHEWS. HER POSITIVE ATTITUDE ON LIFE AND STRONG WILL WAS WHAT KEPT HER WITH US FOR A FABULOUS "75" YEARS! IT DOES NOT NEARLY FEEL LONG ENOUGH BUT THERE WAS A QUOTE ONCE SAID, "A LONG LIFE IS NOT NECESSARILY GOOD ENOUGH, BUT A GOOD LIFE IS ALWAYS LONG ENOUGH!" WE HER TWO DAUGHTERS MICHELLE AND SANDRA ARE HERE TO TELL YOU, WE COULD HAVE NOT OF DREAMED OF ANY BETTER MOTHER AND FRIEND.
SHE GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN 1954 FROM EMANUEL ARTS HIGH SCHOOL IN CALIFORNIA. SHE MARRIED RALPH BLAIR ON MARCH 30, 1957. SHE TAUGHT SMALL CRAFTS AND WATER SAFETY AND WAS THE FIRST WOMAN LIFEGUARD FOR THE L.A. SWIM STADIUM IN CALIFORNIA. HER LOVE FOR THE WATER AND COMPETITVE DRIVE IN THE SWIMMING POOL QUALIFIED HER FOR THE 1956 OLYMPICS BUT SHE HAD TO BOW OUT DUE TO HEALTH CONDITONS AND HER FELLOW TEAMMATE WENT ON TO WIN TWO GOLD MEDALS. SHE COACHED AND PLAYED VOLLEYBALL AND ALSO COACHED SOFTBALL. SHE COMPETED AND WON THE 1967 NATIONALS IN VOLLEYBALL FOR A TEAM IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHERE SHE WAS BORN AND LIVING AT THE TIME. HER LOVE FOR ALL SPORTS, BUT MAINLY VOLLEYBALL KEPT HER GOING AFTER HER LONG BATTLE OF BREAST CANCER THAT SHE CONTRACTED IN HER LATE 60'S. HER GRANDDAUGHTER ARIEL CAN ATTEST TO THE SPUNK AND FIRE AND LOVE FOR THE GAME OF VOLLEYBALL, SHE LOVED WATCHING ALL OF HER GRANDDAUGHTERS COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL GAMES AND WOULD ALWAYS MAKE SEVERAL OF THE MATCHES OVER THE PAST FOUR YEARS. SHE WAS JUST WATCHING HER PLAY 2 WEEKS BEFORE HER PASSING AND CHEERING AND COACHING IN THE STANDS TO THE VERY END!
THANKS MOM FOR ALL OF THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES….MAY ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY IN HEAVEN CELEBRATE YOUR ENTRANCE WITH YOU! WE WILL CHERISH OUR MEMORIES OF YOU FOREVER!
