Charles Donald Zimmer AKA Chuck was born in Wyndotte, Michigan on 2 December 1923 to parents Charles Dewey Zimmer and Melinda Jane Walker. He passed away on 21 May 2021. Family and friends had visited during his last two weeks of life. Chuck was a graduate of Santa Ana High School, class of 1941. He joined the Army Air Corp on 23 May 1944 at the Santa Ana Air Base and attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He met the love of his life in an Ice Cream Parlor in that town. He married Audrey, born in California, they had three children. His second wife was Carolyn Steele, she died in 1992 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. While serving in the Army Air Corp, he was a B29 pilot. He had a crash which led to him being released from active duty. He was an active golfer up to age 92 in the Hackers Club here in Lake Havasu City and golfed in Needles, California. He was known as “Cash” in those days. He also bowled in a league at the Lake Havasu Bowling Alley. His favorite past time was dancing! He line danced, square danced, round danced, his favorite was Country and Ballroom dancing. He was in the Country Dance Club at the Elks Lodge here on Monday nights. Chuck is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jackie Mangana-Zimmer, his daughter Stefanie Barnum of Showlow, Arizona, his son Jeffrey Zimmer of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, his nine grandchildren, his eight great-grandchildren and his eight great-great grandchildren, living mostly in the Phoenix area. Donations can be made in Chuck’s name to Hospice of Havasu or your favorite charity. Services were entrusted to the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
