Obituary of Alan Henry Lake
Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alan Henry Lake, 79, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona passed away on January 13, 2021 after dealing with multiple health issues over the past year.
Alan was born in Staten Island, New York on July 14, 1941 to Alfred and Vera Lake. He graduated from Staten Island Academy in New York in 1960 and went on to attend Long Island University where he was graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor’s degree in Science.
He married his wife, Pauline, on August 24, 1968 in Anaheim, California.
He worked as an insurance broker for MetLife for many years and in 1977, he started his own insurance agency, Trans State Insurance Services.
In 1984, the family moved to Maine where they had a home built next to the house where they had spent many family summer vacations.
In 1990, he started working at a new job, one that he really enjoyed, as a school bus driver/transportation director for Gardiner School District.
In 2001, after 18 years of living in Maine and enduring the long, cold winters, Alan and Pauline decided to move to warmer temperatures and settled in Lake Havasu City, Arizona to retire. Anyone who knew Alan, knew that the word “retire” wasn’t in his vocabulary and he continued to work. He spent time working as a security guard at the Beachcomber and also worked for Passmore delivering propane.
Alan enjoyed being outdoors. He loved fishing and spent lots of time on Echo Lake in Fayette, Maine. He also loved gardening and with his green thumb, grew many different things, like carrots, cucumbers and zucchini. He spent time landscaping, trimming trees and growing flowers. He was often found working on projects that he came up with, whether improving something, fixing something or building something, he was always doing something. The words, “daddy fix it” were often heard in the house.
One of things that Alan really enjoyed was eating at buffets. He was able to enjoy quite a variety of them, some at casinos in Laughlin or Henderson and even more variety while on cruises to Alaska, Panama and Hawaii.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pauline of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. His daughter, Susan Michaud and granddaughter, Heather Michaud both of Lake Havasu City, Arizona and his son, David Lake also of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Vera Lake; and two brothers, Bruce Lake and Richard Lake.
