Obituary of Lorene Gerhart

Lorene Gerhart, 88, of Minot, ND, passed away January 23, 2021, with her children by her side in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Lorene was born on March 25, 1932 to Wallace and Ida (Iverson) Kling in Dunn Center, ND. Lorene graduated from High School in Dunn Center. Lorene went on and received a BS in Education from Dickinson State College. Lorene married Lambert F. Gerhart on January 16, 1951 in Dodge, ND. Lorene began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse and then taught in New Town, Halliday, and the Minot Air Force Base. The majority of her career was spent teaching first grade at North Hill Elementary in Minot. Lorene passed her love of teaching onto her daughter, Susan. Lorene had a green thumb and loved the feel of dirt under her fingernails! She could not pass up an opportunity to add to the numerous flowers in her beautiful garden. Lorene loved birds and every spring would put out countless bird houses and pounds of bird seed. She was also very artistic and loved to do crafts, such as card-making which she used as “her therapy.” Lorene loved traveling and had traveled to every state in the US, as well as Canada, Mexico, and Europe. Lorene was immensely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After retirement, Lambert and Lorene enjoyed their winters in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Lorene is survived by four children; Debra (Tom) Hunter, Minot, ND, Susan Krasnican (Robert) Krasnican, Ozawakie, KS, Terri Gerhart, Minot, ND and Jeff (Betsy) Gerhart, Garrison, ND. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Anna (Ryan) Schneider, Minot, ND, Devin Hunter, Austin, TX, Kari Krasnican, Lacey, WA, Mitchell Krasnican, Topeka, KS. Four great-grandchildren; Sailor and River Schneider, Minot, ND and Tyler and Rylan Jansen, Lacey, WA. Brothers; Harlin (Marie) Kling, Arlis Kling, Killdeer, ND and Roger Kling, Fargo, ND. Sisters in law; Helen Gerhart, Panama City, FL, Cecelia Gerhart, Minot, ND, Thelda Gerhart, Gustine, CA and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorene was preceded in death by her husband Lambert on May 25, 2020, her parents, Wallace and Ida Kling, Dunn Center; her sisters, Wilma Lavin, Chicago, IL and Gayle Kling, McAllen, TX as well as her brother Gary Kling, Golden Valley, ND. Brothers in law; Jerome Gerhart, Panama City, Fl, Richard Gerhart, Minot, ND and Robert Gerhart, Gustine, CA. Lorene will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Lorene's Funeral Service will be held January 29, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home with Father Chauncey Winker officiating. A private family burial will be held in the spring.
