Obituary of Luke Wendel Sharples

Luke Wendel Sharples March 10, 1927 – January 2, 2021 Luke Wendel Sharples was born on March 10, 1927, in Colfax, Iowa. He passed away on January 2, 2021 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He was the last born of 5 children of Luke and Rebekah Sharples. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Thomas, Jack and Gail, his sister Virginia Murphy, his wife Dolores, his nephew Dennis Murphy, his granddaughter Jamie Sharples, and son-in-law Mike Lyons. Luke moved with his family to Southern California at age 11. He graduated from Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, California, where he excelled in football and basketball. Luke was a construction worker his entire working life. He worked on several freeway bridges in Southern California, the Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport, and buildings at UCLA. His last job in the United States was as a structural superintendent. He moved to Saudi Arabia where he worked as a field superintendent. He was a member of the Carpenter and Pile Drivers Union. After retirement Luke moved to Parker, Arizona. He moved to Lake Havasu City in 2003. Luke was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church and was greeted each Sunday with a hug from his fellow parishioners. Luke is survived by his children, Jim Sharples and Susan Lyons, his grandchildren, Jesse and Jason; his great-grandchildren, Nickolas and Jason; and many nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers please donate to Grace Episcopal Church. Luke's Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home with his Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 PM.
