Obituary of Marilyn Morris

Bernice “Marilyn” (Shuck) Morris was born August 31, 1930 in Oakland, NE to Bernice “Marian” and Carl Shuck passed peacefully on December 9, 2020 in Lake Havasu City, AZ at the age of 90. Marilyn’s family moved to Long Beach, CA. She worked as a soda jerk and switchboard operator, met and married the love of her life, Douglas Morris! As their family grew, she volunteered with Jr Women’s Club of North Long Beach. In 1960, the family moved to Santa Maria,CA. Marilyn involved herself in her family’s activities: Brownies, Girl Scouts, made headdresses for Y Indian Guides. She was a Graphic Artist at the Santa Maria Times, designing ad art. She drew Columbus’ ship, Santa Maria for a special edition promoting the city. Santa Maria adopted and continues using the ship as their logo. In 1971 they moved to St Croix, Virgin Islands. In Marilyn-style, she staged a July 4th fireworks show like none had seen, ordering and staging the show, viewed by much of the island. Work took them to Puerto Rico, Virginia, Florida, California then Lake Havasu City AZ. In Lake Havasu, Marilyn volunteered at the Library and Mohave Community College Stage Productions Director, Grace Ann Jacobs using her sewing talents designing, sewing costumes, ushering, sewing usher vests. Everything Marilyn did in life had the WOW factor! Marilyn is survived by daughters Melodee Vosburg (Wayne), Sherry Gunderson (Mike), Lonni Howe; son, Brent Morris; sister, Sandra Lynch; 13 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding her in passing, husband, Douglas Morris, parents, Marian and Carl Shuck and sister, Ava “Lynnelle” (Shuck) Richardson. The Morris and Shuck families extend a huge thank you to Lake View Terrace staff and caregivers for the loving care extended to our mother, sister, grandmother, aunt. Due to Covid restrictions, the family plans a Life Celebration at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association in her name. Arrangements were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
