Obituary of Edward Jacob Sergott

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward Jacob Sergott, 76 went to be with his heavenly father August 31, 2020. Ed was born in Chicago, Illinois to Edward and Susan Sergott. He was the oldest of two boys. Education: Graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Public Administration in Criminal Justice Ed would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received a call, a sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment for which he will not be returning. The assignment comes with a huge sign on bonus, a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. This new assignment takes him to a wonderful place where laughter and love are guaranteed. He left detailed instructions for his wife and children to celebrate his mission here, which now has been completed. Low adherence to this instruction will not be tolerated. As a Marine Ed proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. After his return to the states Ed joined the San Diego Police Department where he was known as a cop’s cop. Ed’s love of flying directed him to becoming a pioneer of the Departments Airborne Law Enforcement Unit known as ABLE. During his time with ABLE he was involved with many thrilling pursuits that included the infamous stolen tank chase in San Diego. During his tenure as a Police Officer and District Attorney Investigator, Ed received numerous awards and citations that included a Life Saving Medal and a Meritorious Service Medal, as well as Investigator of the Year. Ed had a flare for story telling that captivated many leaving them laughing and sometimes scratching their heads. In his spare time if he was not off on a fishing adventure, Ed was flying helicopters for the local news stations in San Diego and on many occasions providing air support during the Baja off road races. Even in retirement Ed continued to fly for Lake Havasu’s Air Ambulance Services. Always on the hunt for his next exciting fishing adventure, Ed explored Alaska, Nicaragua, Mexico, and embarked on many Tuna Excursions, as well as the chain of lakes on the Colorado River. Ed was a husband, a father, a grandfather, an uncle, a son-in-law, a Marine, a cop, a pilot, a hero, an advocate for justice, a patriot, a fisherman, a master of colorful language, a lover of life, and a fierce friend to many. He is survived by the love of his life Cindy, son Matthew, daughter Michelle (Brett) Green, and grandson Greyson, as well as nephews, great nephews and niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Susan Sergott and brother Jerry (Virginia) Sergott. A celebration of life will be held on September 26, 2020 starting at 10:00 AM at Covenant Church, 113 Acoma Blvd North, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403. For those that may not be able to attend in person, the celebration will be live streamed at Covenantchurch.org. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant church. Services were entrusted to the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. Thoughts and condolences can be sent to the Sergott family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.
