Please share a memory of Charles Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles Edward (Charlie) Chauvin 1/2016-1/2020 Don't cry Mom............ Remember when I came to you as a black Cocker Spaniel puppy whom you named Lady when you were seven years old? I got lost in the mountains. After three months, I found my way back to you. We had long bike rides all over Boise. I had puppies, your first experience of seeing a birth. You always had a lap for me. I loved you for five years. I came again, several times over the years when I knew you needed cuddles and affection. Remember when I was a 6# white maltese-poodle named Libby, (after the name on a can of peaches)? Your husband didn't like me. So with a broken heart you gave me to an older couple who lived 100 miles away. I ran away. Three years later I came home but you were in Arizona. Because I still had my tags on, you were notified that I was in the dog pound. You drove home to Utah. You didn't recognize me. I was stinky from nose to tail, hadn't been groomed and I was starving. When I heard your voice I began to scream. You had come for me! You had all of my hair shaved off and took me to the vet who was amazed that I had walked home. The pads of my feet were bleeding. You took me to Arizona where your husband was glad to see me. I stayed in his lap the final few months before he died and helped him to be happy. You were happy too, your lap was full. I loved you for 14 years. As I continued to watch over you, I could see you were stressed and sad, you needed me. I came down again, a shih tzu. You looked for me for months, in several states and many litters. You were so happy when you found me in Idaho. I was named Joey. Remember when you went out to the back deck for some produce from the old refrigerator? You opened the door, heard an unfamiliar noise, thought the motor was going out,the realized it was a coiled rattle snake you were standing on. I jumped immediately between between you and the snake and it bit me. You took me to the vet where a small puncture wound was found on my head but there was no swelling to indicate I had gotten any venom. The vet gave me a shot and I knew I'd be just fine because you had made sure that I had my rattle snake shot.. But, I died, In your arms that night. What wasn't known was that it was a Mohave green rattle snake, the most venomous snake in America, It had two kinds of venom and I wasn't fully protected. You would have died in four hours. I saved your life. I loved you for four years. You didn't know that I had come for you, You thought I had come for your husband who had Alzheimers and was slowly dying. After his death I was to be your constant companion because that was my true mission. You had found me when I was three days old and named me for your grandfather, Charles Edward. I filled your lap. we cuddled and your smiles were coming back. Then you met a new man. He adopted me and my dog sister Betz. We had lots of fun at the park and in the mountains. Lots more cuddles. In August I knew I was leaving again, seizures had started. You were happy, my mission was completed. Your lap will be empty for awhile, but if you need me I'll come back. So don't cry. I loved you as you have loved me.
