Obituary of Emma McGillivray
Emma, Nemma, Nemmy, Nemz, Erma, Embug...so many handles and so many titles for such a little dog, but you were more than just a dog...
On March 13, 2019 our precious Emma tragically drowned in our swimming pool in Lake Havasu City, AZ ...doing what she loved best, playing with her new rescue buddy Bruce ...the shock and pain has been almost more than we can handle but we know that she would want us to learn from this and share our story about pool safety for pets and children around the pool. Please, we urge you to be careful with pool tarp covers when there are no barriers around a pool. There are some great devices out there such as Turtle safety bands for children and pets as well as motion sensors for in the water that will alarm if water contact is made.
Please do your homework and research before tragedy strikes, unlike us doing it after the fact. Please share this information to anyone who will listen, for our sake.
Now onto the beautiful chapter of our life with Emma:
Born June 17, 2008 Emma joined our lives on Aug 24, 2008 after a what was supposed to be a grocery trip that turned into a “let’s do a quick stop at Petland” hoping maybe they would have a litter of Buggs ( Boston Terrier/Pug cross) puppies. Well they did! She was lovingly picked out by her only boy sibling Reis, whom we have thanked repeatedly over the years for having chosen such a “so ugly, she’s cute!” dog (this was her superpower). Emma had the greatest disposition, so full of love to give for all people and pets big, small and in between. With the ability to make them like or in many cases, love her in return.
Emma was a constant companion for her four kids: Kira, Reis, Brea and Tyla growing up as well as her four legged older sister Bliss. Emma brought us countless hours of happiness and joy, sometimes with a piddle here and there that we have since chosen not to recall! As the kids grew older and moved away Emma and Bliss settled into a routine of walks followed by lots of rests till the holidays or summer came and once again the house would be filled with lots of excitement. Then the fun times, lots of cuddles and headlocks would be resumed! With many people coming and going this meant lots of attention for the pups!
In July 2018 a rescue brother, Bruce was adopted for The Golden Girls...and oh how they loved one another. Emma and Bruce became inseparable these last 8 months, playing (while Bliss watched from the comfort of their bed) till they were so tired they lay down in their bed with Bliss all cuddled up together. “Bruce and the Golden Girls” AKA- small, medium and large.
Oh how Bliss and Bruce miss their sister...they are slowing adjusting to their new life without you Nemma...
The pain of losing Emma is only relieved by the memories of having her for all those wonderful healthy years. She lived a better life than some humans do, travelling to the beach, flying to Victoria to be an emotional support dog for the girls during finals (a job she took seriously and did well), to becoming an Arizona dog during the coldest recorded winter in years!
We take comfort in knowing we loved her the best we could and she loved us in return...we will miss you forever...run free...
You’ve left pawprints on our hearts Emma...
