Obituary of Dean M. Bahr
Dean M. Bahr
Dec 30, 1935 – October 5, 2018
Dean Bahr, 82, passed away suddenly on October 5 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Dean, or “Mean Dean” as he would call himself, was anything but mean. He was always a very generous person and wouldn’t think twice about helping a friend out in times of need.
He was born on December 30, 1935 in Iowa Falls, IA to Kermit and Beatrice Bahr. Dean lived and attended school in La Crescenta, CA where he met and married Jendon (Jan) Carstensen. Dean and Jan moved to Costa Mesa, CA where they had three children, Michael, Cindy and Deeanne.
Dean made a living as a plumbing contractor and when the family moved to Fallbrook, CA in 1971 he opened his own business.Dean and Jan were fortunate enough to purchase 10 acres in DeLuz Canyon where they built their dream home and farmed avocados.
Dean loved fishing and waterskiing and the family frequently camped at Lake Elsinore and the Colorado River. He also loved his many trips to Baja California, especially the one when he and Jan drove a dune buggy down before Highway 1 was even paved.
Upon Jan’s death in 2000, Dean retired and moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ where he was active with the Eagle’s and Moose Lodges. He also had a small collection of classic cars and would often be found tinkering under the hood of one of them. To say that he could fix anything would be an understatement.
Dean is survived by his daughters Cindy (Bahr-Merrill) of Bend, OR and Deeanne (Edwards) of Sebastopol, CA, his sister Audrey Kissire, his granddaughter Deena Merrill of Boise, ID and his dear friend, Barbara Stilwell of Lake Havasu City, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
