Obituary of Anne Marie Sturgeon
Anne Marie Sturgeon, 86 years old, died on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at her home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, surrounded by family. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love of prayer and of family and friends carried her through this life.
Anne was born on September 11, 1931, in Meigsville, Ohio, to Stephen and Anna Slivka, the 8th of 9 children. After moving to California in 1953, she met her soulmate, Russell Sturgeon, and the couple married in 1958 in Rialto, California.
Married for almost 60 years, Anne & Russell raised 3 children; Sister Maria Perpetua, M.I.C.M, Stephen Russell and John Michael. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Anne faithfully cared for friends and family, was a woman of strong Catholic faith and was the ever-constant heart of the Sturgeon family. Anne loved spending time with her family, was a Third Order member of the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and was an accomplished small aircraft pilot, serving in the Arizona Civil Air Patrol based in Lake Havasu.
Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are changed by witnessing her constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling and laughter, will never be forgotten.
Anne is survived by her husband, Russell; her daughter Sister Maria Perpetua, M.I.C.M.; her two sons, Stephen and John; three grandchildren; and two sisters Alice Eubank and Hope Massey, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be held at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 12, with a viewing at 3 p.m. and traditional Latin Mass at 4 p.m. Burial will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix on Friday, September 14, at 11 a.m.
