Obituary of William Hunter Norman

William Hunter Norman, known by most people as 'Bill,' passed peacefully on July 5, 2018, while at the Polidori House in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He was 99 and had been looking forward to reaching his 100th birthday in a couple of months. Bill was born September 12, 1918 in Marion, IL to William Edgar Norman and Lucile Armeta Hunter. He graduated from So. Illinois University in 1940. He enlisted in the Army Air Forces in April 1941 and served in the South Pacific Theater of WW II as a First Sergeant in the 54th Troop Carrier Wing, 5th Air Force. He was discharged on December 23, 1945 after having been stationed in the Philippines, Okinawa, and occupation duty in Japan at the conclusion of the war. Bill was a Life member of VFW Post 9401 and DAV Chapter 27, both in Lake Havasu City. He married Mary Alice Mann in St. Petersburg, FL in April 1943. They had met in the fall of 1940 while both were working in the citrus industry in central California's Tulare County. After leaving the military, Bill secured employment with So. California Edison Co., a large electrical utility in 1946 and worked his way up to district accounting manager in the Arrowhead District, located in the San Bernardino Mountains. In 1981 he retired and shortly afterward moved to Palm Desert, CA, where he and his wife Mary Alice resided for the next 30 years. Bill moved to Lake Havasu City in 2011 and resided on his son Mike's property after his wife of 68 years passed. Bill is survived by his son Michael (Kay) and his son Stephen, both of Lake Havasu City, AZ, three grandchildren: Matthew Norman, Jonathan Norman, and Rebecca Booher, all of Arizona, and ten great-grandchildren and 10 great, great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his spouse, parents, and sisters, Wilma Mitschele and Edna Garrison Hemphill. Services are scheduled at Calvary Church, 3100 Sweetwater Ave., Lake Havasu City, AZ on August 4, 2018, at 12 PM. Pastor Chet Anderson officiating.
