Robert "Nick" Prince Hobernicht, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, passed away on January 9, 2018. He was born on November 12, 1929 in Ursina, Pennsylvania to his parents, Howard and Lunda Hobernicht. He was 88 years of age.

 

Nick was born and raised in Ursina, Pennsylvania until he graduated from Confluence High School in 1948. He was proud to serve our Country in the United States Navy from 1948-1952. While in the Navy, Nick was chosen to play football. He played on the Hawaiian Football League and they won the Championship in 1949. He transferred to the team in San Diego, California, and played until he was sent to submarine duty in the Pomadon. He served in the submarine Pomadon in Korean War zone and then transferred to Sea Fox. After taking much needed rest and relaxation in Japan, he was honorably discharged from the Navy and married Joan Speakman, in Sturgis, South Dakota on June 8, 1952.

 

They lived in Ursina, Pennsylvania for two years then moved to Sturgis, South Dakota where they lived there until 1993. In 1993, they made Lake Havasu City, Arizona their permanent residence.

 

Nick owned a grocery business called "The Bargain Barn, Inc." while living in Sturgis, South Dakota. He enjoyed doing business with the local citizens and outlying ranchers.

 

Nick was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church, served on the Board of Trustees, was an usher and also a Deacon of the Church. He belonged to the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce, Sturgis Titan Baseball Team Board Member and was also a Boy Scout Leader while living in Sturgis.

 

Nick loved sports and buying and selling antiques. He was a vendor at Black Hills Flea Market in the 1980's in Rapid City, South Dakota and a vendor at the London Bridge Swap Meet from 1993-2015. He was also featured in the local newspaper and the local television station.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lunda Hobernicht and siblings, Nellie, Harold, Eugene, Harry, Roger, Cleda, and Ruth.

 

Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Hobernicht, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; sons, Howard (Peggy) Hobernicht, of South Dakota, Richard (Sheila) Hobernicht, of Oregon, and Robert (Dana) Hobernicht, of South Dakota; daughter, Jayna (Bill) Grainger, of South Dakota; brother, James Hobernicht, of North Carolina; Brother-in-law, Gordon (Marjo) Speakman; grandchildren, Robert Hobernicht, Tyler Skavang, Jesse Skavang, Michael Hobernicht, Susan Whiteway, Sarah Hobernicht, Rachel Hobernicht, Tessa Tegethoff, Natasha Chapin, and William Grainger and great-grandchildren, Emerson, Harper, Wren, Theo, and Kashton.
