Frederick "Fred" Scoville Lathrop Jr., of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, passed away on December 30, 2017. He was born in Huntington Park, California on June 20, 1932 to his parents, Frederick and Hulda Lathrop. He was 85 years of age.
After graduation, Fred had a short stint in the United States Navy, He then started college and received his AA in Fine Arts. Fred decided to continue his service joining the Oceanside police department. He then found his true calling and went to work for the Oceanside Fire Department, where, after twenty years of service, he retired as a Captain. Fred and Lee were business owners of Snug Harbor Marina, Carlsbad California for 12 years, where they made lifelong friends and memories that are cherished by many.
Fred married Lee on November 16, 1957 in Winterhaven, California. Fred spent most of his life residing in California; Oceanside, Carlsbad, and finally making Lake Havasu City, Arizona their permanent residence for 35 years.
Fred's interests included going boating, loved to go dancing and listening to music, cowboy action shooting, reading westerns, watching old John Wayne western movies, loving his little Chihuahua Peanut, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS), the NRA, and the Sara Park Gun Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Hulda Lathrop and his beloved wife of 49 years, Lee Lathrop.
Fred is survived by his children, Frederick S. Lathrop III and Cindy Lathrop-Oliva; three grandchildren, Ashley Thomas, Brittney Hersam and Nick Ferrell; three great-grandchildren, Ashton Thomas, Riley Thomas, and Reagan Thomas and his furry best friend, Peanut.
Burial will be on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Eternal Hill Memorial Park, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, California at 1200 p.m.
