Obituary of William Otis Farr

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Heaven was waiting for Bill as he passed away at Lake Hills Inn, after an extended time there. The love, time, and kindness they gave him, will never be forgotten. Born to Ross and Madeline Farr in Redlands, California, they owned the Brookside Dairy. Bill was a natural athlete, playing baseball, tennis, and golf. After graduating from Barstow HS in California, he was drafted by the United States Army and went straight into the Korean War in 1951 and lived in a foxhole for 9 months. Coming home, his body was full of shrapnel and a Bronze Star award for saving the life of a wounded soldier. Bill graduated from Pacific States University with a BS in Electronic Engineering. Most of his career, he worked on the space program at Rockwell International & Boeing. He developed instrumentation designs on the Apollo Lunar Mission and the Shuttle. He ended his career being involved with the Space Station. After retiring, he raced hydroboats on Lake Havasu and loved sailboating on the ocean, he had a boat from age 10 to 83. Bill signed with a farm baseball league as a pitcher but his severely injured elbow ended his passion. He was an outstanding softball pitcher in city leagues. Bill was a snow ski instructor and impressive on water skis, breaking his ribs showing off for his wife! He was an avid reader with Louis L'amour his favorite and John Wayne was the number one movie choice. Big band, jazz or classical music was playing in their home a lot. We will miss Bills generous heart, love, support, fun, and terrific Bible classes. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Carol; sons, Richard and Bill Jr. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janice; her daughter, Heather (Bob) Allan; her son, Brian Young; three grandsons, Kyle, Richard, and Montana Farr; two granddaughters, Rachel and Sarah and his sister, Jeri Chao. A Celebration of Life will be 11:00am, on October 21st at Abundant Grace Church, with a reception to follow. Donations can be made to Abundant Grace Church. Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
