Obituary of Dorothy Mae Hande

Dorothy Mae was born in Yale, Oklahoma to Fred and Dee Doutey. She completed high school in Yale, and then graduated from a two year program in secretarial school. After receiving her secretarial certification she was employed in Washington, D.C. in what was then called the "War Department."
She married her longtime friend, Gerald Arden Sherman on January 1, 1945. They shared 30 years of marriage together and had three daughters; Deirdre Sherman Lind, Simone Sherman Taylor, and Cynthia Sherman Jones. After several years of being widowed, Dorothy married James Hande. They enjoyed golf and world travel, while married and after twenty years, Dorothy was again widowed.
Dorothy was a private person with an artistic/creative soul. She saw beauty in everyday life and loved the natural world. She had a talent for creating beauty in her surroundings no matter the circumstances. Dorothy had a zest for life and an intellectual curiosity that kept her engaged with life until her final hours. She was self taught across a wide range of interests and loved sharing her ideas with others.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings.
She is survived by her three daughters, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
