Obituary of Alfred Richard Cleveringa

Alfred Cleveringa, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, passed away April 22, 2017. He was born in Cicero, Illinois on August 16, 1926 to Richard and Mabel Cleveringa. He was 90. Al was proud to serve his country for the United States Navy during WWII. He married the love of his life, Annamae, on September 5, 1947. Al moved to Lake Havasu City from Illinois, October 1970 with his wife and three of his four children. Al lived here for close to 47 years and is considered a Havasu Pioneer. In those 46 years, Al has worn many hats, representing different phases in his life, which included buying his first business, leading the choir of Havasu Baptist Church, collecting, making, and selling rock jewelry, and being active in the London Bridge costume contests where he participated with his family. While being a song leader, he was contacted to establish and direct a chorus for people aged 50+. The group was named "Young at Hearts" and started with only six members and grew to over 50 singers by its 10th year. He was also nominated as "Good Guy of the Month" for his efforts with the Chorus. He was then asked to lead The Islander Church Choir. His favorite music included Christian hymns, Christmas/Easter Cantatas, golden oldies, and his favorite prayer is the Lords Prayer. As Al likes to say, "Life is full of surprises, so let's sing!" The most important thing about Al is that he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Al is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Laning; son, Ronald Cleveringa; brother, Richard Cleveringa Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Annamae Cleveringa; son, Douglas Cleveringa; daughter, Barbara Rich; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be April 29, 2017 at 10:00AM at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens, 1698 Deer Run Drive, Lake Havasu City. Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
