Obituary of Allen Meyer
Please share a memory of Allen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Allen Meyer, 72, of Lake Havasu, Arizona, a retired home builder, contractor and electrician, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017, at Nathan Adelson Hospice, of complications following a stroke. He left us too soon and is deeply missed.
Allen was born on May 24,1944 to Anna and Merlin Meyer. His childhood home was in Green Valley, Missouri. Allen attended high school in Independence, Missouri and later became a self-taught homebuilder in Vail, Colorado. After relocating to Dauphin Island, Alabama he was a volunteer firefighter and paramedic. In the next chapter of his life, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to be closer to his mother and sister. In 1993, he found the love of his life, Barbara, and they were married in March of 2009. Together they became very involved in real estate development. In 2014, Allen and Barbara spontaneously, and happily, retired to Lake Havasu, AZ.
Allen enjoyed many years of traveling with Barbara, from cruising down rivers in Germany, ocean crossings from Spain, riding elephants in Thailand, summer-long motorhome camping in Canada and every US state except Maine. Their last trip together, just weeks before he died, was exploring Yellowstone National Park in the winter. He wasn't afraid to take risks and always said 'yes' if it involved an adventure or dinner out. Allen was also a talented woodworker, leaving behind many beautiful treasures that he created.
Allen is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Mary and Elizabeth; 3 grandchildren, Dustin, Dillon, and Alyssa; sister, Anita Carson; nephew, Evan; niece, Dana; step-daughters, Dayna and Mindy; step-grandchildren, Matthew, Kristoff, Darian, and Garrett.
