Dear Jill, Kathy and Wendy: We all were saddened to hearing of Mary's passing. She was a special person in our lives, too. It's much too soon for her to have left. We'll always remember our trip to Arizona to visit with her and Donn. T.J. will always remember learning how to do sudoku from Mary: her message was "always do it in pen; that way, you better have the right answer." This other Mary Catherine will remember our phone conversations, usually late at night due to the time zone differences. We will remember your mother's sitting on our deck when she would come to East Boston to visit: we would be enjoying what called "the good weather," and your mother would be wrapped in several afghans, sipping her wine and regaling us with stories of the Berninger clan from days long past. We, then, would share our current stories of the family. Those were fun visits.
Marc, Megan and T.J. have all enjoyed knowing their only cousin of that generation of the Berninger family. She was a special person to us all. Soon, Tom and I will plan a night on the deck where we will toast Mary with a sip of her boxed wine. I think she will be laughing at that! Love, from Tommy, Mary and their children
