David John Champion, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, passed away on February 10, 2017. He was born on February 20, 1918 in Weedville, Pennysylvania. He was 98 years of age. David enlisted in the Army and was proud to serve our country from 1943-1945. He was part of the second wave of soldiers who landed on Normandy Beach in WWII. Being born and raised in Pennsylvania, he then moved to Chicago and married his wife Violet Mae Kustaborder in 1943 and lived there until 1977. They decided to further their adventure and made Lake Havasu City, Arizona their home in 1977. They shared 35 wonderful years together before she went to be with the Lord in 1979. David was fortunate enough to find love again and married Maureen Hendricks in December of 1993. They enjoyed seventeen years together before she passed away in 2011. David enjoyed many things in life. He played on a senior men's softball league in Lake Havasu at the age of 75, he loved to bowl, hike, travel, and play golf. He also self taught himself how to play the guitar. Playing by ear, he entertained the whole family for many years. David was also a member of the local VFW Post #9401. David is preceded in death by his first wife, Violet Mae Champion and second wife, Maureen Champion (Hendricks); mother, father, step-father, as well as eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by daughters, Darlinna (Phil) Livingston, Sandra (Sherwood) Sanders, Nancy (Raymond) Greinke; step-children, Sandi (Kevin) Gunder, Shelly Myer Hendricks, Kurt Hendricks; nine grandchildren; thirty two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Lietz-Fraze funeral Home on February 17, 2017 at 12:00pm with a funeral service to follow at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Havasu.
