Obituary of Harold LeRoy Spencer

Harold Spencer, of Lake Havasu City, passed away on January 28, 2017. He was born to parents John and Blanche Spencer on December 14, 1926 in Tacoma, Washington. He was 90 years old. Raised in Washington, Harold decided to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. While serving his country, he was an airplane mechanic, Drill Sergeant and retired as Master Sergeant. After retiring from the USMC he went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service, where he started out as a letter carrier and then retired as an assistant Postmaster. After retirement, Harold took up woodworking and excelled in his new found hobby. Harold had other interests that gave him joy, one of which was quilting, and belonging to Havasu Stitchers. He devoted alot of time to quilting and helping others learn how to quilt. Harold enjoyed ceramics and playing Pinochle several times a week at the Senior Center. He was a member of the Elks, VFW Post#9401, Senior Center, and First Southern Baptist Church in Lake Havasu City. He spent hours volunteering his time to help with various activities, especially "Meals on Wheels" in Lake Havasu City. Harold was a very kind, gentle man who was a very proud father, grandfather/great-grandfather/great-great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita "Nita" Spencer; sons, Leroy Spencer and Lynn Gregory; brothers, Morris and Ken, and three grandchildren. Harold is survived by his sons, Robert, John, and Gerald Spencer; daughter, Carol Rutherford; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be, February 11, 2017 at 2:00pm at Lietz-fraze Funeral Home. Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery on February 17, 2017 at 1:00pm. Donations can be made to Hospice of Havasu or Meals on Wheels. The family would like to thank the caring, dedicated, and compassionate staff at: HRMC, Lake Hills Nursing Home, Polidori House, and Alternate Solutions for wonderful in home care provided.
