Obituary of Johanna "Jo" Simon

Please share a memory of Johanna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jo Simon, (Grandma Jo) age 90, of Lake Havasu City, passed away January 24, 2017 and is now rejoicing in the presence of our Lord and Savior. She was born April 28, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan to Arthur and Doris VonDolke. On December 1, 1949, she married Howard William Simon, and he preceded her in death on November 27, 1986. Jo's education included nurses training and was employed as a CNA prior to starting her family. Jo raised three children in Maumee, Ohio and upon death of her husband, moved to Kokomo, Indiana, residing 15 years near her youngest daughter and their family. She then moved to sunny Lake Havasu to be nearer to her oldest daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, coloring, counseling people, volunteering in her church and community, and sharing her faith with others. Her special love was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Grandma Jo always looked forward to her summers in Kokomo where she swam, played games, and spoiled her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending Bible Study at Crossroads Church every summer. She is survived by her three children, Nancy (Paul) Stoway, Lake Havasu, John (Peggie) Simon, Toledo, Ohio, and Carol (Tom) Garber, Kokomo, Indiana; grandchildren, Mark (Pam) Simon, Katie Simon, Brandon (Alicia) Garber, Jerron (Kim) Garber, Ashlin (Matthew) Hadden, and Ryan Kendall; eleven great-grandchildren, Chris, Alac, Aidan, Declan, Isla, Jacob, Ethan, Brianna, Gavin, Coltin, and Connor. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Bruce, and granddaughter Andrea. Jo was an active member of UMW, Tops, Kops, craft group, avid prayer warrior, tutor with the Literacy Coalition, and a member of American Legion Post #384. Services are February 7, 2017 at 1:00PM at St. Michaels United Methodist Church, Lake Havasu City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Michaels UMC Vacation Bible School, 2895 South Jamaica Blvd., Lake Havasu, Arizona 86406, as working with children was one of her true passions. Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. Thoughts and condolences can be sent to the Simon family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.
