Obituary of Barbara Ashford

Born November 1, 1931 to Walter and Eva Metzger in Santa Monica California. Barbara grew up in Los Angeles California with her parents and three siblings Robert, Paul and Loraine. Barbara graduated from Venice high in 1948. Soon after her graduation Barbara began her 30-year career with Helms bakery where she worked with her mother and sister baking up delicious treats for all to enjoy. When the doors to Helms closed, she left and began working at Merle Norman cosmetics where all her family and friends benefited from the goody bags she frequently brought home. She retired after 30 great years in the cosmetic industry. Barbara married the love of her life Donny when she was 18 years old and soon started a family. Their Journey together started in Manhattan Beach California where they raised their two children William Bruce Ashford and Michael Eric Ashford. Barbara and Donny lived in Manhattan Beach for 47-years. After retirement in 1997 they moved to sunny Lake Havasu City. They were joined by their children, one of their grandchildren and great grandchild, because being hundreds of miles apart was just too much. Barbara never met a stranger that soon wasn't a close friend or someone she considered family. Her kindness, compassion and love for all was felt everywhere she went. Barbara spent much of her life doing for others and asking nothing in return, she was a selfless soul with an overwhelming love for her family, friends and extended family. Until the day she passed she insisted all arrangements be made and nothing be left after her passing. She did not want to burden anyone. Barbara became an angel in her heavenly father's arms to watch over us all and was reunited with her love Donny on January 15, 2017. Barbara's legacy lives on in her sons, William (Sherri), Michael, her grandchildren, Jeanna (Jarod), Eric (Trisha), Chad (Jodi), Renee (Joey), Hannah, and Cole, along with her great grandchildren, Schyler, Somerlyn, Shaelynn, Allyssa, Aidan, Ivan, Elizabeth, and Trinity. Barbara shared an amazing bond with all her family that will never be forgotten. Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
