Warner Pehling Hein, of Lake Havasu City, AZ, died Tuesday January 10, 2017 in Arizona. Warner was born to the late Jürgen & Mildred Hein in Echo, Minnesota on February 9, 1934.
Warner was a gifted IBM electrical engineer with an extensive career that spanned much of the evolution of computing in America. He worked in Washington D.C. During the Kennedy years and then transferred to the Hudson Valley with IBM, moving to a farm in Esopus to raise a family in a home he both designed and built by hand. He was instrumental in helping with the implementation of the tracking program for the NASA space program throughout Europe.
He shared his lifelong love of baseball with many as a little league coach for years. He was a brilliant man who could teach himself almost anything. In his retirement he became an avid woodworker.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Mary K. Peterson, and son Warner P. Hein Jr.
Warner is survived by his loving and caring wife, Eileen Smith Hein; sister, Eunice Taylor (Rick); daughter Nancy Norling (John Ryan);son Michael P. Hein (Christine); daughter-in-law Nina Hein; stepchildren, Jodi Lynn (Robert); Sharon Downes, and Mark Evans; several grandchildren, Mickey Hein, Warner Paul Hein; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
