Obituary of Loren Alfred Hawkins

Loren Alfred Hawkins passed away peacefully in his home on Dec. 13. He was born to in Osage, Kansas on May13, 1922 to Lilly and Alfred Hawkins. In 1930 his family traveled Route 66 with only $80 in hand in a Model T Ford and landed in Southgate, Calif. He attended Southgate high school and lettered in football and then went on to play semi-pro football in Los Angeles until the pros came in. Loren married Ruby Shippy (passed away) in 1940. They had two sons, Allen and Terry. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served his country on the USS Meriwether in Japan when the peace treaty was signed. He came home and joined the Boilermakers Union and started his career as a welder. In 1958, married Mryna Rodesch in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Altadena, Calif. They had a son Rodney and a daughter Cali. Loren enjoyed many sports and spent many years boat racing, riding dirt bikes and traveling the U.S. in their RV. He had an interest in American history and enjoyed visiting many historical sites and national parks. He was a member of the San Gabriel Boat in Ski Club in the 50’s and 60’s and was a proud owner o f the Nordic boat named Hawkeye. He spent many years camping and riding dirt bikes in the high desert with his family and supporting his family’s dirt bike racing. He had an eye of art and used his talented welding skills to make belt buckles and art pieces. He spent the last 13 years living in Lake Havasu enjoying his family and grand and great- grand children. He is survived by wife, Myrna, Son’s Allen (Becky) & Rod (Linsday) and daughter Cali George (Brian). 5 grand children, 7 great grandchildren He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Ruby, Son Terry and daughter-in- law Valda, brother Frank and Sister Edna. Memorial service will be held with the family at a later date. Donations can be made to Hospice of Havasu or the Catholic Daughters Scholarship Fund.
