Please share a memory of Ralph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dean Medhaug, Sisseton, South Dakota Dean passed away on November 10, 2016. He was born on July 7th to Gehard and Dora (Jensvold) Medhaug, in Veblen, South Dakota. Dean attended Veblen Public School graduating in 1959. He then farmed with his father on the family farm. Dean was a member of the Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Veblen, and Our Saviors in Veblen. Dean and Sonja were united in marriage on August 11, 1962. They made their home on the family farm, from 1962 until 1994, when they moved to the Sisseton area. Farming was very important to Dean and he truly loved all parts of it. Dean and Sonja were blessed with two beautiful sons. Jason (wife Karen (Hoistad), grandson, Ryan Dean), and son Craig. Dean was a director for Lake Region Electric for many years, first filling in when his father passed away unexpectedly in 1966, and retiring from LREA in 1994. His past time hobbies were bowling and golfing with his many friends. He did have a "bucket list." His dream was to travel to all the states, which he accomplished, along with Australia and New Zealand. Another, was to go to Norway and see where his family originated from. This he got to do in 2014, visiting relatives and he loved standing on Medhaug Beach in Karmoy. A wonderful, wonderful trip! Another dream was to attend all four Majors and Ryder Cup of which he attended all but the British Open. His real joy though, was watching his grandson Ryan, grow into a young man. Dean totally loved watching Ryan Grow and just being together. While Ryan was in high school, they traveled the state watching him play golf, wherever and whenever, rain, sleet or snow, they were there, enjoying every minute of it. Then after Ryan graduated, stopping and visiting him on their way to and from Arizona. Dean and Sonja spent the winter months in Lake Havasu City, Az with friends and family from home and Minnesota. On their way south, they often stopped and visited family and friends. While in Arizona, they spent their time "golfing" and enjoying the desert and mountains. Dean is survived by his wife, Sonja, two sons, Jason (Karen) and grandson, Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. Thoughts and condolences may be sent to Dean's family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.
