PHYLLIS BRENNER
Phyllis Brenner, (93), passed away on October 15, 2016 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She was born on March 10, 1923 in Hastings, New Zealand. She met her future husband, Louis, who was serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, at a dance. They were married in Wellington, New Zealand in October 1942. Since it was wartime, she traveled to America with other war brides on a Navy ship. Arriving in San Francisco, she traveled across the country on a railroad train to her new home in Pennsylvania. After the war she and Louis moved to Ohio, then west to Colorado, Utah, California, and Arizona.
Phyllis served on the Civil Air Patrol in Ohio and spent many years as a bookkeeper. After retirement she volunteered as a docent at a gold mine museum in Grass Valley, CA and was active in the VFW, the Elks, and the Moose organizations. Phyl and Lou celebrated 64 years of marriage before his death.
An avid reader, she also followed baseball and NASCAR cheering for her favorite team, the Diamondbacks and NASCAR driver, Matt Kenseth.
Phyllis is survived by her three children, Sandra Bark, Gary and Lucy Brenner and Cheryl and Lyle Chenoweth; her grandchildren, Debra and Mike Gardner, Craig Bark, Doug and Darryl Chenoweth, Philip and Erica Brenner and Ryan and Suzanne Brenner, 7 great-grandchildren, and her favorite companion, Sadie, her cat.
There will be no services as Phyllis will be going home to New Zealand.
