Obituary of Norman Leroy West
Please share a memory of Norman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Norman L. West "Nick" was born to Clyde and Mary West on March 19, 1938 in Marshalltown, Iowa.
The family moved to California in the early fifties and settled in Downey, California. Nick graduated in 1957 from Downey High, where he went on to work as a Baker at Helms Bakery for 11 years. He then enrolled in the Los Angeles Trade Tech School and earned his Journeyman Electrician degree and continued working as an electrician for 30 years at the Los Angeles Times before retiring as Lead Electrician in 2000.
Nick married the love of his life, Kay Curlee on November 21, 1959, in Bellflower, California. They raised their sons, Norman and John, and settled in Downey. They moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona after his retirement in 2000.
Nick loved everything water, from scuba diving in the Pacific to spending every possible minute he could on our beautiful lake swimming, skiing, enjoying fast boats, and fishing. He also enjoyed playing out in the dirt on his quad with his family and friends. Nick also was an avid Hot Wheels collector for many years.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents and his first son, Norman.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; son, John (Carol) West; grandsons, John David and Austin Tyler; brothers, Tom West, North Carolina, Dennis West, Colorado; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Nick was a friend to so many who loved him. His easy going laugh and beautiful smile earned him the name, "Good Guy" and "Superman."
A celebration of his life will be held at a later time.
