Charles Edwin Hupp, known as “Charley,” passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ida A. Hupp (Toni), his high school sweetheart. He is survived by his three children, Leslie Rhyner, Schuyler Hupp, Valerie Glimp (Dr. Tom Glimp), and his four grandchildren, Alexis Rhyner, Jackie Glimp (Zach Steiner), Madison Glimp and Maggie Glimp. Charley was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on May 21, 1924. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and served as a First Class lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He taught Math at Iowa State, worked for General Electric and retired from Texas Instruments. Charley and Toni enjoyed backpacking in the Rocky Mountains and spent summers in their mountain home near Gunnison, Colorado. In 1972, Charley and his wife started a youth ice hockey program in Dallas, Texas, where he served as a coach, a program that continues to this Day.Charley, a resident of Kingman, Arizona for the last 16 years, was an active and prominent member of the community. He was a member of the Republican Forum and a Precinct Chairman, was a lifelong member of the Freemasons, sang in a barbershop quartet, and was a recruiter and advisor at Mohave Community College. Last fall, Charley was thrilled to participate in the Nevada Honor Flight for Veterans to Washington, D.C. A celebration of life is planned for October and will take place in Kingman.
