I am very saddened to learn of the passing of my 3rd grade teacher. She was a very dedicated, thoughtful, and generous teacher and person. She got me interested in geography and history, and that has been a passion of mine every since. In fact, I now teach social studies and foreign language. Mrs. Toftey really had the ability to get you interested in something and let you explore it while still keeping you on task. We were each asked to do a report on a state, and by the end of the year many of us had done an extra report or reports and had covered almost the entire country. I am very grateful for the academic encouragement and personal support that she gave me as in her class in 1978~1979 and many times in the years after that. My sincere condolences.
