Obituary of Alice L Bickel

Our dear mother, grandma and friend Alice went to sleep on May 19, 2016. She as 95. After a long battle with cancer, she now rests waiting for Jesus' soon return. Alice was born in Natick, Mass., to Nicolena and George Currier, the third of four children. She moved west to California at 19 to be with sister Frances. While working in her brother-in-law's (Dr. Theadore Haun) office in Boulder City, Nev., she met her children's father, George Earnshaw, and they were married in Las Vegas in 1940. JoAnn, her first child, came along in 1942 in Utah and their second, William, was born in Nevada. Her husband George was a finish carpenter and amateur miner, so they moved quite often in their years together. He also invented a Geiger counter in the early 50's, the Oretron, and taught JoAnn how to build her own volt meter, which still works today. Alice settled in Kingman in 1952 where she and two other women, Virginia Boyett and Millie Lowe, founded a company of Christian women and children which eventually became the Kingman Seventh-day Adventist Church. During her 20 years working at A&W here in Kingman, she met LeRoy Bickel while he was commuting between Phoenix to work in Las Vegas as a carpenter. They really loved each other and were married in 967 in a Las Vegas chapel. Alice was preceded in death by George, the love of her life LeRoy, her parents, her brother Charles, sisters Frances and Gloria, and granddaughter Cheri. She is survived by daughter JoAnn (Jerry) Richmond, son William Earnshaw, grandson Wayne (Natalie) DeLong, great grandchildren Allison, Cassi, ALek and Maria, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Her heart was full of love and kindness for others. Just being around her was a lesson on how to live well and have faith. She will be greatly missed by all. We love you mom Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on May 28 in the Kingman Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3180 White Cliffs Road, followed by Alice's favorite ice cream and cake.
