Obituary of Joann Swander
Please share a memory of Joann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joann Swander, 82, passed away on April 21, 2013 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She was born March 13, 1931 in Albany, Oregon to Lloyd and Ina (Watson) Lennard.
She was 14 and a majorette with the Albany HS band when she met the love of her life, Lloyd . Five years later they were married and celebrated 62 years together. She kept busy with their church, Evangelical United Brethren, gardening club, as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and Sunday School teacher. She loved water skiing, horseback riding, camping, sewing, and working with ceramics. When all three children were in school she went to work at Fairmont Elementary School in Albany as a librarian, working there many years until retirement.
In retirement, Lloyd and Joann travelled the U.S. in their 5th wheel and took trips to Hawaii, Alaska, and Mexico where Joann caught a larger sailfish than Lloyd. In 1997 they built a home in Lake Havasu, returning to Albany during the summer months. In Havasu they enjoyed walks in Rotary Park, shopping, ice cream at McDonalds, camp trips with the Good Sam Club, and getting involved with Lake Havasu Baptist Church. She was a great cook and took special pride in making brownies for her granddaughters whenever she visited.
She is survived by her high school sweetheart and loving husband, Lloyd Swander of Lake Havasu; son Greg (Bonnie) Swander of Lake Havasu, daughter Melinda (Swander) DeArment of Albany, Oregon, son Jeff Swander of Lake Havasu; granddaughters Sunny Swander of Redwood City, CA and Sheena Swander of Lake Havasu; brother Robert (Ida) Lennard of Mission Viejo, CA; and sister-in-law Joann Eastburn of Albany, Oregon. The family is comforted knowing she is home with her Lord.
