I met Charles about 8 yrs ago when I was working for Pheasants Forever in South Dakota. I helped him plan several of his habitat projects on his land. He was a great man and he always had a sparkle in his eye when we would talk about hunting. So sorry for your loss. Chris Goldade

I met Dr. Haerter in 1998 and scrubbed with him for a little over 2 years. In the hospital he was 'Doctor'. Outside of work, he insisted we all call him 'Chuck'. He socialized quite a bit with hospital staff. What a great man!
He was trained old school, but was always eager to try new technology. I thought he was one of the best general surgeons with whom I ever worked. He was compassionate towards his patients. He was not a 'stuffed shirt', and he treated staff as equals. Blessed with a great sense of humor, he was always as ready to tell a joke as he was to hear one.
My son is in medical school now, and I've told him all about how Dr. Haerter treated his patients and the staff with whom he worked. He knows the difference, and I trust he will follow the example of this wonderful man.
Chuck did a lot of great things in his life, and I know his memory will live on.
My condolences to his family,
Dan Wesley
