Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William "Bill" A. Hawkins Jr., passed away at his Lake Havasu City home on December 31, 2014 with his loving family by his side. He was nearly 94 years old.
Bill was born in Pasadena, California on January 12, 1921. He attended Santa Monica public schools followed by a two year trade school. At the age of 20, Bill fell in love and married his good friend's sister, Ruth Hannum on February 6, 1942, in So. Pasadena, California. Bill joined the Navy and served 3 years during WWII in the Pacific theater.
Bill and Ruth lived in several California cities before retiring in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, twenty-four years ago.
Most of his working career Bill spent as a building contractor in a special niche market working for Hollywood luminaries. He then worked in building management for Alcoa's Century City project, in Los Angeles, California prior to retiring. When he wasn't working, Bill enjoyed the simpler things in life, like spending time with family, reading, boating, tinkering in his workshop, working on cars and traveling in his RVs. He was also an avid bridge player. He and Ruth taught their children and grandchildren to play and enjoy bridge as well. Bill was a devoted husband and father as his family was his highest priority.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clara Hawkins, as well as his sister, Mary Ann and brother, John. Bill is survived by his wife, Ruth, with whom he enjoyed nearly 73 years of marriage. He is also survived by his two sons, Richard (Pamela) Hawkins of Lake Havasu City, Arizona and James (Lamar) Hawkins of Topanga Canyon, California and his two brothers, Alfred Hawkins and Robert Hawkins. In addition, he leaves behind six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Bill's final care was entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. Thoughts and condolences may be sent to his family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.
