Obituary of Gertrude Jean Fitzsimmons
Please share a memory of Gertrude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gertrude "Jean" Fitzsimmons passed away on February 6, 2015 at the Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She was born to Gertrude Hannah and Stephan Thomas Baumer in Homestead, Pennsylvania on December 15, 1930. Jean was wed to Walter James Fitzsimmons on December 5, 1959. She called him, Jim and he was the love of her life. She said that her life began when she met Jim and she felt like her life had ended when he suddenly died in February 2, 1997.
Jean had many friends, belonged to clubs and did volunteer work. She worked at the hospital's Day Surgery Desk and Waiting Room on the second floor for many years. She did an important job keeping families of patients informed and worked well with doctors and hospital employees. Jean did not have a cell phone or an answering machine on her home phone but her friends always knew where to find her on Thursday afternoons. Jean had many friends and she liked to travel. Jean and Jim had been on an around-the-world- trip shortly before he died.
Jean belonged to Mount Olive Lutheran Church. She belonged to Welcome Wagon, Tops, Republican Woman's Club, and the Hospital Auxiliary. Jean worked with a project until it disbanded called "Hug A Bears" that made stuffed bears for the hospital, police and fire department to give to children when they were in an accident or other urgent happening.
She will be missed and remembered; she was ready to join Jim in the life hereafter. There will be a Memorial Service at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 17th at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory. Thoughts and condolences may be sent to the Fitzsimmons family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.
