Obituary of Elmer Richard Deichstetter

Elmer was born March 5, 1923 on Courtland Avenue in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph Deichstetter and Elizabeth Kopcynski. He passed away on February 23, 2015 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Elmer was the youngest of 8 siblings. He is proceded to heaven by: mother and father; Julia (Arthur) Schmuldt, William (Florence) Stetter, Walter (Ruth) Deichstetter, Ervin (Dorothy) Deichstetter, Eleanor (Edward) Clarke, Amelia (Irving) Slome, Anthony (Mary) Deichstetter. Elmer was a foreman at Skilsaw on Elston Avenue in Chicago before enlisting in World War Two on February 23, 1943. Elmer was a member of Army Co F 168 Infantry 34th Division (Brickbats). Elmer was responsible for 12 men on tactical deployment, during reconnaissance and combat missions to secure information concerning enemy positions. Elmer was in both Italy and Africa. He was awarded: Distinctive Unit Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters, Three Bronze Campaign Stars, and Good Conduct Ribbon. After the war, Elmer went into baking, after many mergers. He was the Purchasing Manager for Continental Baking (Hostess) in Chicago. Elmer was never married. He had his good friend Millie, and his dog, Sparky. Elmer moved to Lake Havasu City from Chicago in 2013. Elmer is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and sibling in many states. Elmer's cremation was at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home, Lake Havasu City, Arizona on February 27, 2015. Elmer's remains will be buried with his mother and father at St. Joseph Cemetery at River Grove, Illinois. Elmer's remains will have a VA burial at St. Joseph Cemetery at a future date. Donations can be made in his name to Hospice of Havasu. Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
